Legal Regulation

The Legal Affairs Directorate exercises the following core functions:

 

• Initiating the development and review of laws and by laws pertaining to the electricity and water sectors;

 

• Overseeing the licensing and compliance function of the URA, including making recommendations to the Board of the URA with respect to the issuance of licences under the Electricity Act 2005.

 

• Providing internal legal advice to the URA Board on various regulatory matters;

 

• Representing the Authority on Legal matters including dispute resolution, contract negotiations and litigation involving Government and other stakeholders;

 

• Managing the registry function of the URA, including keeping official records of licensing-related documents, licences issued and Board meetings.
